about

From the deep, deep vaults of unreleased recordings comes the instrumental reggae album you've been waiting your whole life to hear... It was the summer of 2001. The twin towers were still standing in Manhattan. Barack Obama was a state senator in Illinois. And, in a quiet backyard in the flatlands of Albany, CA, the Original Fireproof Posse began laying down these tracks that would capture this group at is freshest: spontaneous, melodic, adventurous and yet linked to tradition, and with a one-drop so heavy you could use it for a down payment on a used Volvo station wagon.

Fireproof was an active and influential in the New York Reggae scene in the early 2000s, but the group was always true to its Cali roots. This is the West Coast edition of the band, anchored by the drumm'n'bass of Anders Nelson and Tom Mayer, amplified by the elegant guitar strutting of Mark Allen-Piccolo, with tandem melodic improvisation and horn blasts from Isaac Narell and Cale Brandley on saxophones. Tom, Anders, Mark, and Cale had all flown in from New York for the summer, and Isaac was holding it down in the East Bay. The result was pure B-town reggae bliss: listening to this album, you'll think you're back on top of the Firetrail watching the sun set and the streets light up on the town below.

Special thanks to Andy Narell for engineering and supporting this recording.
